iOS 7 is Here!

Normally I like to do a long and in depth blog about something this big happening but the problem is, there isn't a lot of information on it.  If you own an iPad 2 and up, iPad mini, iPhone 4 and up, and/or and iPod Touch 5th generation then you are going to get the chance to download iOS 7 tomorrow (or today if it happens to be 9/18/13).  I say chance because you don't have to do the update right away, you can wait.  Honestly if you are not 100% comfortable with technology and depend on your Apple device, then I suggest waiting until the weekend or whenever you have a full day off to update.  No matter when you decide to do it, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you back up your phone to your computer or to iCloud.

This is the biggest change to any Apple product since the invention of the iPhone.

Like I said not a lot of information is known about all the changes.  My thought is that Apple didn't want to overwhelm people who own their products so they have made it relatively low key.  Even two weeks ago when Apple unveiled the new iPhone 5s and 5c, they spent a total of 10 minutes introducing iOS 7 and some of its features.  A lot of tech nerds, journalists, and such were really confused with this because this is the biggest change to any Apple product since the invention of the iPhone.

So what is changing?  Icons.  All of them.  Every icon has been changed and redesigned to go with the new color scheme.  Oh yeah, color scheme.  Everything is brighter and more lively.  Think passion fruit colored skittles.  The scheme is also flat in design.  No more bevels or rounded edges to things to give it a stand out effect.  App icons and more are of a flat design.  A new command bar that you can swipe from the bottom of the screen to bring up a bunch of short cuts that before you had to go into the settings app to change.  The finder screen is now accessible from swiping from the top instead of swiping all the way to the left of your device. Siri now has a male voice if you would like it. The swipe down notifications are now broken down into what is happening today, what is going to happen in the close future, and what you missed.  The lock screen no longer has the swipe bar to unlock.  You can now swipe anywhere on the screen to unlock.  The unlock number pad has also been redesigned to look more like a dial pad on a phone.

I could go on but I hope you are getting an understanding of how big this change is.  Just remember to back up your device to your computer or iCloud and be patient.  "Hold on Doctor Jones, we going for a ride" - Short Round 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'
