The iPad 2 trade in deal is kinda of a low ball offer depending on how you look at it. If it is the base 16GB model and it's in really good condition you can sell it on Craigslist or eBay for upwards of $250 (more if it has more storage and is a cellular data model). But then you have to take into consideration eBay's fees (Craigslist has none), Paypal's fees, and the cost of shipping. With Craigslist you just have to worry about taking the time to meet the person to sell it to and the risk if you don't choose a public and well lit meeting location. So weighing in your time and effort on those versus just walking into Target and handing it over are things to consider. For those with an iPad 3 or iPad 4 (iPad Air is considered the 5th model) this is a complete rip off as those models, even the base model, can still fetch up to $300 depending if you have more storage or a cellular data iPad.
In addition to the iPad deal, Target is also holding a similar deal on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Through March 22, you can trade-in a used smartphone and receive the estimated value for that device, plus an extra $50 off. Let’s say your iPhone 4s is considered to have a value of $100. Combine that with the extra $50 just for trading a used smartphone in, and you’ll be able to pay for a 16GB iPhone 5s on two-year contract, which is currently being offered for $150 through Target. The iPhone 5c, meanwhile, is $49 with a two-year contract. The iPhone deals are only valid with Verizon, Sprint and AT&T.
