TIm Cook talks Apple possibly letting users delete some Apple apps

There’s plenty of improvements I wish Apple would bring to iOS. Better multitasking would be great. So would homescreen widgets and other customization options. Unfortunately the company doesn’t seem to be planning any of that for the near future, though iOS could still get one much-needed improvement before too long.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to a question regarding the company’s annoying insistence on cramming its devices full of pre-installed apps that can’t be deleted. He admitted that it’s something Apple is looking into, though there may be a good reason it hasn’t already been solved.

“There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone,” Cook toldBuzzFeed. “If they were to be removed they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone. There are other apps that aren’t like that. So over time, I think with the ones that aren’t like that, we’ll figure out a way [for you to remove them]. … It’s not that we want to suck up your real estate, we’re not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy. So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it’s something we’re looking at.”

Hopefully this means we’ll get a fix soon, though it probably won’t be until the release of iOS 10 next year at the earliest. For now you can always just hide all those annoying Apple apps in a folder, though they’ll still be taking up precious storage space even if they’re out of sight.
