Pangu Jailbreak for iOS 9 released
iOS 9 has only been out a few weeks, and already the Chinese Pangu jailbreak team has released the world’s first untethered jailbreak covering iOS 9 through iOS 9.0.2 for all compatible Apple devices.
The jailbreak is available for free, although currently OS X users will have to wait since there’s only a Windows installer available.
Mac support will no doubt follow in the future, but no date has yet been announced.
While I can confirm that the jailbreak does indeed work, users should show caution when using any jailbreak.
Pangu itself advises users to backup their data via iTunes. They also recommend switching devices to airplane mode, and disabling “Find my iPhone” and passwords functions in system settings to improve the jailbreak’s “success rate.”
PanguTeam has become one of the main jailbreak players over the past several years. In the cat-and-mouse game Apple plays with the jailbreak community it has even taken to (perhaps slightly mockingly) publicly acknowledging it when fixing vulnerabilities in versions of iOS.
