PS4 will not play PS3 while the Xbox One will play Xbox 360 games

Well that settles that

Sony, through World Wide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, has firmed up its stance on PS3 backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 4. In short, it’s not happening.

This is just about as direct as it gets. PlayStation France recorded Yoshida responding to fan questions on Twitter. One fan asked him if PS3 games will be playable on the PlayStation 4 through backwards compatibility. Shu’s answer? A clear and concise “no.”

Here’s the tweet and video in question.

Why would fans be asking about this? The Xbox One is set to get backwards compatibility when the consoles gets its next major firmware upgrade on Nov. 12. 2015. The Xbox One will play 360 games, and the Wii U can play Wii games, so that leaves Sony and whether or not the PS4 will play PS3 games.

Nope, not like the other consoles will.

That’s a bummer. The PlayStation 3 had some exceptional exclusives. I adore backwards compatibility because I still play old games. This feature would have been nice. At least now we can stop wondering, I suppose.
