Mozilla Firefox is finally available on iOS

Options for the consumer is best for competition

Mozilla’s Firefox browser is finally available on iOS, eight months after the company kicked off its first beta test. The app supports both iPhone and iPad, and allows you to login with your Firefox Account to sync history, bookmarks, and open tabs across devices.

While rival web browsers like Google Chrome have long supported iOS, Firefox has been a glaring omission from the App Store. Mozilla did offer a Firefox Home app many years ago, which allowed users to access their bookmarks — but it refused to launch a browser.

The company said that this was because of Apple’s restrictions on third-party web browsers, which prevented it from implementing the JavaScript engine and other enhancements it wanted to deliver for a speedy experience. But fortunately for Firefox fans, Apple changed those restrictions with iOS 8.

Now a true Firefox browser is available to download from the App Store, packing all of the features you would expect to see — including Firefox Account syncing for bookmarks, open tabs, history, and even passwords; Private Browsing mode; and search suggestions.

Like Chrome, Firefox also tells you how many tabs you have open, and allows you to quickly switch between them.

Firefox for iOS is totally free, and you can download it from the App Store now by following the source link below. Note that the app requires iOS 8.2 and above, so you won’t be able to download it if you’re still running an earlier version of Apple’s software.
