T-Mobile was to put a 4G LTE cell tower in your home

First Comcast and now T-Mobile.

T-Mobile on Monday announced the 4G LTE CellSpot, a new microcell that will provide a T-Mobile’s 4G LTE signal in areas where you might not have coverage, such as indoors, for Simple Choice customers. The 4G LTE CellSpot follows in the footsteps of a similar product, the Personal CellSpot, which allowed voice calls over Wi-Fi networks where signal was spotty.

In the past, T-Mobile’s lack of low-frequency spectrum made it difficult for some customers to receive a 4G LTE signal indoors. Now that it’s rolling out its 700MHz spectrum in major markets, however, T-Mobile has started to alleviate that concern for some customers. For everyone else, the plug-and-play 4G LTE CellSpot could help speed data up where the connection is otherwise slow.

Like the original CellSpot, the 4G LTE model provides coverage for up to 3,000 square feet. It includes support for VoLTE and 3G and 4G connections. For Simple Choice customers on eligible plans, it’s available for “free” with a $25 deposit and an unannounced “non-return fee.” If it’s as easy as the first CellSpot was to get, however, you shouldn’t expect to jump through any hoops for one.

The 4G LTE CellSpot will be available in participating stores and direct from T-Mobile beginning Nov. 4.
