LOK'TAR OGAR!
Enemies will unite for the greater good when Warcraft hits theaters next summer. The first trailer for the movie based on Blizzard’s massively popular MMO has been released, giving us a pretty comprehensive look at what to expect. There will be fighting, drama, family and plenty of pretty visuals. Oh, and a lot of angry Orcs, too.
As a long long time (former addict) of World of Warcraft I am excited for this movie but the trailer has me concerned. Where are the Dwarves, Night Elves, and Tauren? I can understand no Gnomes, Trolls, Worgen, Undead, or (and thankfully) Blood Elves. But the Tauren are tied greatly to the story of the Orcs first arrival as they helped shelter them. And the alliance with the Humans and Dwarves are deep in the story roots as well.
From what I can tell, a majority of the movie is made up of CGI, which is good or bad depending on your viewpoint. It reminds me a lot of The Hobbit trilogy, which relied heavily on the crutch of CGI to tell its story. When used correctly, it can absolutely fade to the background as just another tool. But I can’t help but notice it in the trailer. Some of the shots kind of take you out of the action, while others, like the closeups, look absolutely convincing.
Check out the trailer below to get a feel of what Warcraft will be about. If you’re a longtime WoW fan, what are your thoughts? Concerns? Let us know! Warcraft is set to drop on June 10, 2016.
The film portrays the origin story of the initial encounters between the humans and the orcs, with an emphasis upon both sides of the conflict. Featuring characters such as Durotan and Anduin Lothar, the film will take place in a variety of locations established in the video game series.
