No cable no cry. No satellite no problem.
Streaming is kind of like magic if you think about it. You can watch a number of movies, TV shows, documentaries and so on with a few clicks and a very small learning curve. I personally think the latter is most important feature when it comes to any technology. For a technology to be useful, it has to be easy enough for children and elderly users to be able to grasp easily and quickly.
It’s been seven years now that we’ve cut our cable at home. We stream just about everything through Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO GO and a handful of other services. We can watch live TV through SlingTV and dedicated apps that we cast to our TV at home with just a few swipes and clicks. As long as our Internet connection holds up we hardly miss out on anything. Maybe channel surfing, then my wife would argue I click through the navigation carousel through those services way too long before I finally select something to watch.
Live TV is great, sure, but honestly I rarely watched live TV to begin with, with the exception of a few shows. We would stick to DVR or on-demand content and watch when it was convenient for us.
Plus with so many great inexpensive streaming tools like Chromecast, Apple TV, and Roku, the costs of entry are so low that anyone can do it. Plus new apps and services from traditional premium cable services are adding more content to the fold. I love that I can stream a ton of amazing content for a relatively low fee.
Add to that that streaming is portable and mobile, we can take our streaming with us, that is until we’re without a consistent Internet connection. Plus binge-watching is just so rewarding. This new year and years to come you’ll know where I’ll be. What are you binge watching these days? What should be on my list next?
