Serial season 2 podcast is back on iTunes, online, and Pandora

YESSSSSSSSS!

Serial is finally back! Season 2 of the record-breaking podcast kicked off unannounced on Thursday morning with the first episode now available from iTunes, Pandora and online.

The new season focuses on Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. soldier who allegedly abandoned his post in Afghanistan and ended up spending five years as a prisoner of the Taliban. The podcast will likely include plenty of interviews with Bergdahl, who Serialcreator Sarah Koenig calls “an interesting and unusual guy, not like anyone I’ve encountered before.” However, it will also extend into other parts of the military, including the peace talks that took place near the end of the Afghanistan war, other hostage rescue attempts and even the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

Unlike last season, which explored a rarely mentioned murder trial, season two of Serialwill take on a high profile story. “Our first season was about a murder case few people had heard about,” Koenig notes. “Season Two is a story a gazillion people have heard about.”

It’s still unclear how this will change the tone and style of Serial, but we can’t wait to find out. You can listen to the first episode using any of the source links below, though at the moment the podcast’s own website appears to be struggling from the surge of new visitors.
