Has a character ever had a bigger discrepancy between screen time and popularity than Boba Fett? If he’s not the king, he’s still royalty. And the voice actor behind the legendary bounty hunter, Jason Wingreen, has passed away at age 95.
Wingreen had a long list of bit parts over the years, appearing in many of the most popular shows throughout the 1980s, but is best known for Fett, as whom he had four – yes, four – lines.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Wingreen had originally auditioned for the voice of Yoda, who ended up being voiced by his puppeteer, Frank Oz.
Fans of the series know that for the much-maligned prequels, Boba’s father/clone source Jango Fett, was voiced by a New Zealand actor named Temeura Morrison. To make things consistent, Lucas went back and had Morrison re-dub Boba’s lines as well, as he was a clone (and everyone knows your accent is genetic!).
Wingreen’s voice is still the fan favorite and will likely remain so. Wingreen is survived by his sister, a son, and two grandchildren.
