Could Darkseid be in the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie?
A new image from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, released in Empire magazine currently available to subscribers and out on the newsstands this week, hints at the involvement of DC Comics supervillain Darkseid.
We'll have a higher resolution photo soon; this one comes from one of a number of users posting this and other Batman V Superman-related images to social media. In the image, we see Batman looking down at an Omega symbol, which is Darkseid's sigil.
Darkseid, the dictator of the planet Apokolips, is the head of one of two factions of New Gods. His opposite number is Highfather, ruler of New Genesis -- although he and most of his allies are far less frequently seen than the villains like Darkseid, Steppenwolf and Kalibak. Parademons are his (mostly) faceless and mindless soldiers.
In the comics, Darkseid is currently dead, having died in battle with the Anti-Monitor during the "Darkseid War" storyline. Solicitations for April comics, however, suggest that he'll be back in Justice League #50 when that story ends.
Darkseid has long been rumored as the villain of the forthcoming Justice League Part One. He was the central antagonist in the final season of Smallville and squared off with Superman in one of the most memorable episodes of Justice League Unlimited.
