There will be no iPad Air 3, but a smaller 9.7 inch iPad Pro on March 15

Looks like Apple won’t release an iPad Air 3 after all. Instead, the company will reportedly launch a smaller version of the iPad Pro, which made its debut at the end of last year. The news was published by 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman, who usually gets it right.

Gurman said Apple will launch the device as soon as March 18, just three days after its rumored March 15 press event where we’re also expecting a software update and new bands for the Apple Watch, in addition to a smaller 4-inch iPhone 5se. The smaller iPad Pro will reportedly offer consumers “nearly identical features” as the larger iPad Pro, including Apple’s new A9X processor, support for the Apple pencil and additional memory. There will even be a smaller keyboard accessory, Gurman said, noting quad-stereo surround sound speakers are also supposed to be part of the package.

Color me interested. The iPad Pro is too big for my tastes – also a hair too expensive – a smaller version might suit me just fine.
