How To: Cancel your subscription to an iTunes app

No you don't just delete the app

There are many apps on the iTunes App Store and Mac App Store that rely on recurring in-app purchases in order for you to get the most from them. In the case of Newsstand and other online services, these in-app purchases take the form of subscriptions.

In this article, we'll walk you through this process of managing in-app subscriptions so that you'll only pay for what you're using, and show you how to cancel the rest easily. Continue reading to find out the details.

When you subscribe to a magazine or a service such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, or CBS All Access using your iTunes account through a iPad, iPod, and iPhone, the subscription will keep auto-renewing until you turn it off. Turning off auto-renew, essentially canceling your subscription, only takes a few taps or clicks; you just have to know where to look.

How to cancel my Apple subscription?

The first thing you need to know is: deleting the app will not automatically stop your subscription - because it's attached to your iTunes account. You must actively cancel the subscription using the process described below. If you uninstall the app but don't cancel your subscription first, you will still be charged by Apple.

There are 2 ways to manage your Apple subscriptions: on your portable device (iPad, iPhone or iPod) or on your computer.

Cancel subscription on iPhone, iPad or iPod
  1. Access Settings in the home of your device;
  2. Scroll down and tap iTunes Store and AppStore;
  3. Tap your e-mail and Apple ID, View Apple ID and enter your password;
  4. Now, tap Subscription - Manage and select your subscription
  5. Turn off the auto-renewal option and tap Done.
Cancel subscription on your computer
  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
  3. Click your name, and select Account Info from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter your password again.
