Nintendo 2DS to get a $20 price drop to $79.99

The Nintendo 2DS has been hit with another price cut. As the system ages, Nintendo aims to keep it as affordable as possible. The handheld will sell for $79.99 starting on May 20, $20 cheaper than its current MSRP.

The 2DS will be bundled with a copy of Mario Kart 7, something that’s already standard for the handheld.

Nintendo pretty much continues to aim this device squarely at kids. The press release announcing the news uses language like “kids” throughout, offering up that “Kids can soon check out the new game in the Kirby series, Kirby: Planet Robobot, which launches June 10, as well as two new kid-friendly games coming later this year: Style Savvy: Fashion Forward and Disney Magical World 2.”

I actually picked up a 2DS for my four-year-old for Christmas this year, and he has played it almost daily ever since. The device has been great for him, offering a decent battery life, strong frame and parental controls. He might be able to beat me in Mario Kart soon.

If you have a little one in your family that’s approaching a gaming age, the 2DS is a solid and affordable way to hit the ground running.
