Samsung Galaxy S7 Active shows up again in photos

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 Active for AT&T has leaked out ahead of its official debut. Photos confirm the device will have physical buttons, and a more rugged polycarbonate design that has rubber edges for impact protection.

We knew the Galaxy S7 Active was coming after the official Samsung Level app mentioned the device back in late March — but more than a month later, the handset is yet to make its debut. In case you had any doubts it was real, these photos should quash them.

Despite sharing the same name, the Galaxy S7 Active looks nothing like the regular Galaxy S7. It has swapped shiny glass and cool aluminum for a less attractive but more robust polycarbonate form factor, which has rubber cushions around its sides.

Like its predecessors, the Galaxy S7 Active has a camouflage finish on its back panel, which appears to be removable. However, the SIM card slot in the side of the device suggests you probably won’t be able to get at much when you pull off that back.

It is expected that the Galaxy S7 Active will be MIL-STD-810 military-rated, which would make it suitable for use in extreme conditions. The device also has physical buttons — not only for home, but also for back and recent apps — which will make it easy to use when wet.

We still don’t know when the S7 Active will make its official debut yet, but it certainly appears to be close now.
