Samsung to release the Note 7 late this summer, not the Note 6

No, this isn’t a late April Fool’s joke. Apparently Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Note 7 later this summer, not the Galaxy Note 6. SamMobile was the first to report the news earlier this morning, citing pretty obvious reasons for why Samsung may want to skip the Galaxy Note 6.

The company, as one might assume, wants to get the Galaxy Note naming in line with its Galaxy S series. Since the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are out right now, the firm reportedly wants to deliver a Galaxy Note 7 as well. That makes sense. Consumers who aren’t necessarily in-the-know like you and I won’t think they’re buying an old phone when the Galaxy Note 6 launches. “When Galaxy Note 6 that has its model number lower than Galaxy S7, which is the newest model, is released, it can give out a feeling that it is an outdated phone,” a “high-ranking” Samsung official told SamMobile.

Makes sense – Samsung would just skip the Galaxy Note 6 altogether, perhaps confusing a few people but taking that one leap that’s required to get all of its smartphones aligned. SamMobile also added that the phone will have curved edges like the Galaxy S7 Edge does and that Samsung may try to squeeze the release in “even earlier” than the Galaxy Note 5 last August.
