Disney green lights Wreck-It-Ralph 2 for release

Following the release of Wreck-It Ralph in 2012, many people begged Disney to do a sequel. And why wouldn’t they? The movie was hugely successful and introduced audiences to an amazing world full of fun characters. So it always seemed weird that Disney was so quiet about a follow-up; it was as if the studio completely forgot about it.

Well, good news: Not only is a sequel on the way but you won’t have to wait that long to see it. Disney on Thursday announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 is scheduled for a March 9, 2018 release, which isn’t that far away when you think about it.

The sequel is being directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, the latter of whom helped write Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia. No details about the film were revealed just yet though Collider got an interview with director Rich Moore talking about what to expect.

In addition to Moore and Johnston as co-directors, actor John C. Reilly is also returning to voice Ralph.

Disney Animation has been on a tear recently, with Tangled, Big Hero 6, Frozen, and Zootopia. Later this year the studio is going to release Moana, followed by Wreck-It Ralph 2 in 2018; in between that, two new Pixar movies, including Cars 3, are set to hit theaters in 2017.
