I sort of couldn’t believe what I was reading when I first saw the press release from Nintendo plop into my inbox this morning. The company has announced the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. It’s a plug-and-play console that’s smaller than the original and packs 30 classic games.
The system is selling for $59.99, and it will release on November 11, 2016. It includes 30 games, an NES Classic Controller, an HDMI cable and an AC adapter. You’ll be able to snag a second controller separately, and those are going for $9.99. That controller can work on Virtual Console NES games on both the Wii U and Wii when plugged into a WiiRemote.
The console itself seems to run on the same Virtual Console emulator Nintendo has on other machines. That means it offers save points, so every game can be paused, suspended, saved and turned off without losing even a second of progress.
Isn’t this sort of incredible?
Okay, what about the games themselves? The collection is downright exceptional, friends. Super Mario Bros., Excitebike, Castlevania, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby’s Adventure… they’re all here.
