Hulu has terminated it's free to stream option

Hulu just announced that it’s killing its free streaming service, forcing users into signing up for its more premium ad-supported $7.99 and ad-free $11.99 monthly options.

Hulu senior vice president and head of experience Ben Smith admitted that Hulu has put its focus into its premium packages and, ultimately, felt that its free option “became very limited and no longer aligned with the Hulu experience or content strategy. The focus is now on continuing to add original content, movies and other features to its paid options. TVLine noted that Hulu is also planning to partner with Yahoo View, which will let viewers view new episodes for 8 days from networks such as ABC, NBC and Fox.

I always imagined that the free version of Hulu served as a gateway to get users into the paid ecosystem, but it sounds like Hulu has enough premium content that it can woo people right into its paid tier now.
