Marvel's The Runaways is getting turned into a series for Hulu. Deadline reports that the Eisner award-winning series is being adapted for the small screen by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for Marvel Television, becoming yet another Marvel property heading to TV in the coming years.
The Runaways, written by Saga creator Brian K. Vaughan with art from Ms. Marvel artist Adrian Alphona, debuted back in 2003. The story follows the misadventures of a group of diverse, superpowered teenagers who discover their parents are members of a powerful crime syndicate. Together, they team up to defeat their parents and try to do some good in the world.
Schwartz and Savage, for whom coming-of-age stories are familiar territory (Schwartz also created The O.C.), are well-suited for this adaptation. "I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life," said Schwartz in a statement, with Savage adding, "Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu."
The new series is only the latest coming from Marvel Television. In addition to new series like The Punisher coming to Netflix, the studio is also working on a Cloak & Dagger series for Freeform, as well as X-Men series Legion and an untitled X-Men series from director Bryan Singer.
