Netflix 'Stranger Things' was rejected by 15 TV networks before being picked up

Stranger Things hit Netflix in the middle of July. It’s an exceptional show that calls back to 70s and 80s classics in the genres of horror, comedy and adventure. My friends like describing it as sci-fi and horror with a Goonie' twist, and that’s pretty accurate.

The winning show was created by Matt and Ross Duffer. The pair got together with Rolling Stone for an awesome piece about bringing the show to life. They talk all sorts of stuff like inspiration and creating their monster.

The Duffers also touch on bringing Stranger Things to life with the help of a network. Matt Duffer told Rolling Stone that they estimate that between 15 and 20 networks rejected Stranger Things before it hit Netflix. That’s 15 to 20 executives who read or heard this pitch and decided to move on.

It’s a good thing Netflix said yes, because Stranger Things is easily up there among my other favorite original series on the service. Have you watched the show yet? If you dug it, check the interview on Rolling Stone in the source link below. It’s a good one.
