If you had any question if your Galaxy Note 7 is affected by a malfunctioning battery, it probably is. There are at least two reported incidents of the Galaxy Note 7 now exploding in North America. A report from local South Carolina stationWMBF News claims that Horry County Fire Rescue investigators say the origin of a house fire was near a wall outlet in a garage where a man’s Galaxy Note 7 was charging.
From WMBF News:
“Wesley Hartzog said he plugged in his Note 7 to charge on Sunday and left his house to pick up his two daughters. When he returned, he found his home in flames and fellow firefighters surrounding it.”
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but in the meantime, Hartzog and his kids are living in a hotel because the house has been condemned or deemed not fit for habitation.
Samsung announced a voluntary recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 devices worldwide on Friday.
A completely separate report comes from Reddit user brodesto. Brodesto posted images of a friend’s handset that had malfunctioned. In fact, things went awry while his friend was using the device, a supposed T-Mobile unit, and sustained minor injuries.
If you were questioning turning in your handset, even if you think there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s a good idea to swap it out for a new one for your safety. As these two reports show, it’s possible for things to go wrong very quickly, and you certainly don’t want to risk your safety or losing things dear to you, such as in Hartzog’s case, his home.
There are high possibilities that your device could be one of the affected units. It was reported yesterday by way of the Korea Herald that Samsung SDI is the supplier of 70% of batteries for the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung SDI is the company that is believed to have manufactured the failing batteries.
