Twitter is killing off Vine

Twitter announced today that it’s killing Vine. It won’t be quick and dry, though. It’s going to be a drawn out death that will take months or longer.

“Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app,” Twitter said. Perhaps Twitter is deciding to kill off the product as it looks to slim down on costs. It still isn’t profitable and is laying off employees elsewhere, so this actually makes sense. The good news is that existing Vine apps and websites are going to exist for now. “You’ll be able to access and download your Vines,” the company confirmed, noting the website will still be accessible so that folks can watch old Vine posts.

“We’ll be working closely with creators to make sure your questions are answered and will work hard to do this the right way,” Vine said. Kinda a bummer for all those Vine celebrities out there. Guess they’ll need to move over to Snapchat.
