Xbox's Project Scorpio hardware specifications to be revealed tomorrow

In just about 24 hours, we’ll know a lot more about Project Scorpio, Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox One. Industry insiders said earlier this week that we’ll likely learn more about the system, and Eurogamer‘s Digital Foundry team has confirmed they’ll have the hard specs on
Thursday.

We don’t know very much. Microsoft said at E3 last year that we can expect a system that can run at 6 teraflops (TF), compared to the Xbox One at 1.3TF and the PlayStation 4 Pro at 4.2 TF. Of course, numbers are just numbers, and teraflops on their own don’t tell us a lot. It’s a vague number that doesn’t give us detail about what the devkit lets creators do with the system, what challenges they’ll face or what gets easier with the system.

Thursday’s reveal should give us a clearer idea of the system’s power beyond that simple teraflop rating. Digital Foundry has consistently been one of the best destinations for technical insight into game consoles, and the team hasn’t been afraid to pull punches. That Microsoft is giving them the exclusive shows that they know where the community goes for that kind of information and that they’re pretty confident in what Digital Foundry will have to say about it.

Don’t expect this reveal to include much information about games. If it’s like past Digital Foundry content, they’ll have their own video for it, but it’ll be a strictly technical-presentation sort of affair.
