YouTube TV now expands to 10 new markets

YouTube TV will expand to 10 more cities across the US, the company announced yesterday. The OTT service will expand to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne, Phoenix, and Washington, DC.

The expansion comes two months after the launch of YouTube TV, which is currently only available in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The slow rollout is due to the fact that YouTube TV heavily relies on the big four broadcast networks to compensate for its lack of channels (no Viacom networks, for one). So it needs to strike deals with affiliates in each city it launches in.

The company will need to speed up its expansion if it wants to catch up with the DirecTV Now, Sling TV, and PlayStation Vue’s of the world, however, which are all available nationwide. YouTube says the new cities will come online in “a couple of weeks.”
