Apple “News” App for iOS 9
Apple just announced News, an app designed to read interactive articles on your iOS device.
The app looks pretty similar to a number of readings apps (Flipboard, News Stand, etc), though it offers the option for media companies to build articles specifically for News. Apple also includes a favorites tab for tracking your top articles. The app is also intelligent, and learns what you like over time.
The design looks pretty great. There’s tons of flashy graphics and animated scrolling effects. There’s also a mosaic view for photos, with the option to take any image fullscreen with a single tap.
Apple is launching News with a handful of partners including The New York Times, ESPN and Conde Nast. That means the app will come packed with plenty of content right off the bat. All articles should be available through News, though some will likely look better than others.
The new app will launch in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.
