The new Dash Wand wants to be your hand-held kitchen assistant for both cookin’ up that culinary masterpiece and ordering all of the goodies you need to do so, including booze. This Dash Wand features their Alexa assistant for the first time, along with a barcode scanner, water resistant body, and magnet to keep it attached to your fridge.
To use Dash Wand, you can do a number of things. For one, you can use the barcode scanner to scan items in your house that you need refilled. By doing so, the Dash Wand will add them to an Amazon cart for later checkout. You can also just say to it, “Strawberries,” and it will add them to a cart. For quicker checkouts, you can tell Amazon to “order” those items and it will then order them.
Of course, with Alexa in there, you can grab the Wand and have it turn lights on or off, complete various other skills. It does require that you press a button, so it’s not like the voice-activated Echo.
To launch, Amazon is charging $20 for the new Dash Wand. However, once you register and activate it, Amazon will give you a $20 credit. So more or less, it’s free. Also, if you are in a market that offers AmazonFresh, you’ll get 90 days free. The service normally costs $15 per month.
