Apple cord cutters rejoice. Android cord cutters, not so much.
HBO’s standalone service is coming to the Apple TV next month. Like the rumors said, HBO Now is a little more expensive than your usual streaming service, though HBO isn’t your typical premium cable channel. When the service goes live, it’ll be $14.99 per month, and be available on all Apple devices, including iPhones and iPads; it’s unclear if the service will be available through the Web.
Apple will be the exclusive partner at launch, so it’s unclear how long Apple will have exclusivity; a month? Two months? Either way, it’s a big win for Apple, and a good way to help push out Apple TV units. HBO CEO said the first month will be free if you subscribe in April, just in time for the Game of Thrones premiere. And, by the way, Apple said it’s dropping the Apple TV price to just $69.
