Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note 7, not 6, on August 2

Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy Note 7 and/or Galaxy Note 7 edge on August 2, according to a leaked promotional poster. The South Korean company has scheduled aGalaxy Unpacked event at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

“The next edge is just around the corner,” reads the poster’s tagline, while a graphic that features smooth curves appears to spell out the number 7. Recent reports have revealed Samsung is planning to skip the Galaxy Note 6 to bring its flagship phablet family in line with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

We already had an inkling that the next Galaxy Note would appear in August, around one year after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 5. The company has traditionally saved new Note devices for IFA in September, but it’s thought it is now keen to beat Apple’s latest iPhone refresh to the market.

The Galaxy Note 7 is expected to offer a 5.8-inch Slim RGB display, a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, and an iris scanner. The device is also likely to be water-resistant like the Galaxy S7, and could be Samsung’s first smartphone that makes the switch from micro-USB to USB-C.

It’s still unclear whether Samsung will announce a Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy note 7 edge alongside it, or whether we’ll see just one model. New leaks could confirm things prior to the even, but if not, we’ll have to wait it out until August 2.
