Late last week during the night, Marvel quietly announced that Avengers: Infinity War, which was originally supposed to split into two movies, is now being consolidated into one.
Back in 2014, Marvel unveiled its Phase 3 lineup, with Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 set for 2018 and 2019, respectively. However, recently directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed Captain America: Civil War, hinted that the two Avengers films would actually be very different from each other, saying it’s not a single film being split into two parts.
Now, Marvel has confirmed that it’ll release Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, followed by “Untitled Avengers film” on May 3, 2019. No other details were provided beyond that, and it’s unclear how closely the two movies will be related. Obviously, the first film will deal heavily with the Infinity Stones, so what will the untitled Avengers flick be about?
Marvel has a ton of movies in its lineup before Infinity War hits theaters, including Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok. Based on Thor’s sweet investigative skills, we might have to wait until his film at the end of 2017 before we know how this will all unfold.
