Jon Bernthal to play The Punisher in season two of Daredevil

Marvel on Tuesday announced The Punisher will appear in the next season of Daredevil, which is set to premiere in 2016. Does this mean the character will eventually get his own spin-off? It certainly adds credence to the rumor.

Playing the character will be Jon Bernthal, who certainly has a tough guy bravado about him. He is best known as Shane from The Walking Dead, and he also appeared in theWolf of Wall Street and Fury.

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television. “Castles appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”



In the comics, The Punisher is a vigilante who will go to any length necessary in order to bring down justice on criminals. He’s in stark contrast to the character of Daredevil, who refuses to kill, no matter how vile someone is.

The moral differences will no doubt bring plenty of conflict between the two characters as Daredevil continues to clean up Hell’s Kitchen.
