iPhone X pre-orders are this Friday and these are the deals offered by the major carriers

SPRINT

Preorders for Apple’s iPhone X start this Friday at 3AM ET, and we’re starting to see the first carrier deals for the upcoming smartphone. First up is Sprint, which will be offering a deal through its Sprint Flex leasing for $22.22 per month for 18 months with a trade in of an older device.

Like Sprint’s deals on the iPhone 8, though, it’s important to point out that the discounted price is only for the first 18 months. If you want to keep the phone outright, instead of trading in to Sprint for a new lease (which you can do after 12 months on the Sprint Flex lease), you’ll have to pay out the last six months at the full $41.62 per month (roughly) price. That said, at the end of the day, you’re getting a 64GB iPhone X — which retails for $999 — for around $649.68, which isn’t a bad deal (assuming you’re okay with giving up your old phone).

Sprint is also offering the deal to both current and new Sprint customers; the company only offered some of its iPhone 8 deals to new Sprint sign-ups.

If you’re interested in the deal, you’ll have to trade in a recent iPhone or Android device. The list includes: the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung Note 5, LG G5, LG G6, LG V20, Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z2 Play, BlackBerry KeyOne, and the HTC U11.

VERIZON

Hot on the heels of Sprint’s iPhone X deal, Verizon has unveiled its own discounts for the iPhone X. The carrier is offering up to $300 toward the new phone, assuming you meet a fairly specific set of conditions.

To qualify, you’ll have to be either a current subscriber to Verizon’s “Go Unlimited” or “Beyond Unlimited” plans, be eligible for a device upgrade, or be a new subscriber to one of those plans.

Next, you’ll need to purchase an iPhone X through Verizon, which costs $41.66 per month. (If you’re an existing Verizon customer who is upgrading, don’t forget to tack on a $30 upgrade fee, too.)

Lastly, you’ll need a recent smartphone to trade in; the discount you get will be dependent on what phone you trade in:

  • For $300 off: iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, Google Pixel XL, LG G6, Moto Z2 Force, Galaxy S7 or Edge, Galaxy S8, or S8 Plus
  • For $200 off: iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, iPhone SE, Google Pixel, LG G5, LG V20, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z2 Play, Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, or Galaxy Note 5
  • For $100: iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, HTC 10, Moto Z Play, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 4

Lastly, assuming you’ve done all that, the discount itself is paid out over 24 months, so you’ll need to stick with the iPhone X for two full years. If you decide that you want to pay up the full balance of the phone or switch off the unlimited plan, you’ll stop getting your money back.

But assuming you meet all those qualifications, and are planning on buying an iPhone X through Verizon, $300 off might help ease the sting of Apple’s $1,000-plus price tag.
T-MOBILE

T-Mobile is joining the party with an offer that’s pretty similar to what Verizon and Sprint have on tap: trade in your current “qualifying” iPhone, and T-Mobile will give you up to $300 off your iPhone X.

Like Verizon, you’ll have to purchase the iPhone on one of T-Mobile’s installment plans (either the regular “Equipment Installment Plan” or the company’s Jump! On Demand
leasing program, which allows for more frequent upgrading, with the trade off of never actually owning your phone).

And that $300 discount? How it’s doled out depends on the trade-in value of your phone. T-Mobile says that any iPhone from the iPhone 6 or newer — except for the SE— qualifies, but you’ll only get credited upfront for whatever the carrier decides your current iPhone is worth.

Anything beyond that trade-in value toward the $300 total discount comes in the form of 24 monthly bill credits. So, hypothetically, if your iPhone has a trade in value of $200, you’ll get that up front, with the extra $100 split up among 24 monthly discount.

And like most of the other carriers, while you’re eligible for an upgrade after the first 12 months of payments, doing so means that you’re forfeiting what remains of your monthly discount — so it might be worth trying to flip your old iPhone by other means and just buying an iPhone X outright with the profits if you’re planning on upgrading more frequently.

And if you need a refresher on T-Mobile’s iPhone X prices, your various options are below:

Through the Equipment Installment Plan (i.e., a spacing out the cost of the phone across 24 months:)

  • 64GB: $279.99 down, with $30 per month payments for 24 months (for a total retail value of $999.99)
  • 256GB: $429.99 down, with $30 per month payments for 24 months (for a total retail value of $1,149.99)

Jump! On Demand (T-Mobile’s rental program)
  • 64GB: $41.56 a month
  • 256GB: $429.99 down, $24 a month
